Settling into his sister’s place while she’s in Japan for an extended time is wonderful for Kendall, as he finds himself falling for his sister’s boyfriend Luke. When Luke hears that Kendall’s ex is still harassing him at work, the sister encourages Luke and Kendall to put forward a fake relationship like he’s been doing for her for a decade!Would have liked for Luke to be more defined and his issues to be more seen more. Kendall was charming and Mizuki seemed like a catch. I enjoyed many aspects of this book: the food, Luke’s domestic/protective nature, Kendall’s delightful inability to handle himself in the kitchen as well as his inner dialogue, and the sheer convolutedness of the fake relationships at one point. What I didn’t enjoy so much was the romance. I loved Luke and Kendall together—despite what I just wrote—but I don’t feel like we had enough time with them. I could believe their friendship but the romance was stretching things a bit for me. Luke’s turn-around from his relationship hang-ups, I felt, could/should have taken a bit longer especially with how strongly he clung to his concerns. With that said, I’m happy this book ultimately remained low-angst. I do also feel that Kendall could have been fleshed out a bit more. Kendall’s sister seemed entertaining, and I’m interested in reading Luke’s cousin’s story. I do wish we’d had some scenes with Kendall’s parents. Maybe been there during the relationship reveals. Oh, I nearly forgot to add that Kendall has (or had) terrible taste in men.While I did think the story had a lot of good elements, I do also think it could have been better. But overall, it was a good, quick read.
